How to Make Delicious Homemade Hummus
As someone who loves to snack, homemade hummus has become a staple in my kitchen. It’s a tasty and nutritious dip that can be enjoyed with vegetables, pita bread, or chips. What’s even better is that it’s super easy to make at home with just a few simple ingredients. In this post, I’ll show you how to make hummus with chickpeas, tahini, sesame oil, lemon, garlic, and a few other seasonings.
Not only is hummus delicious, but it’s also packed with nutrients. Chickpeas are a great source of protein, fiber, and vitamins, while tahini provides healthy fats and minerals. When enjoyed with fresh vegetables or whole-grain crackers, hummus makes for a satisfying and healthy snack.
Homemade Hummus Ingredients:
100g dried chickpeas – soaked overnight, rinsed and drained OR 400g can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
1 tablespoon tahini
1 tablespoon sesame oil
Juice of 1 lemon
2 garlic cloves, minced
Salt and pepper, to taste
Water, if necessary
Toasted sesame seeds, for serving
Olive oil, for drizzling
Fresh thyme, for garnish
Instructions:
1.. In a food processor, combine the chickpeas, tahini, sesame oil, lemon juice, garlic, salt, and pepper. Pulse until the mixture is smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.
2. If the hummus is too thick, add water a tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
3. Taste the hummus and adjust the seasoning as necessary. I like my homemade hummus with a bit of a tang, so I usually add a little extra lemon juice.
4. Transfer the hummus to a serving dish and garnish with toasted sesame seeds, a drizzle of olive oil, and fresh thyme leaves. I love how the sesame seeds add a nice crunch and nutty flavor to the hummus.
5. Serve with pita chips, vegetables, or your favorite dipping accompaniments. I usually opt for carrots, cucumber, and red bell pepper, but it’s also great with crispy pita chips.
Hummus is a versatile dip that you can customize to your liking – try adding extra seasonings, such as cumin, paprika, or roasted red pepper, to give it an extra kick of flavor. You can also experiment with different types of beans, such as black beans or cannellini beans, for a unique twist on the classic recipe.
